A Pentecostal Church
We believe in the continuation of the fivefold ministry of Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers for the building up and equipping of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:7-16).
In addition we believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit identified in the New Testament (particularly 1 Corinthians 12-14, Romans 12) are still available to the church today, and that appropriate operation of them is vital for the health and effectiveness of the local church. We therefore endeavour to honour the biblical exhortation to ‘earnestly desire the spiritual gifts’ (1 Corinthians 14:1.)
A Local Church
The leadership structure of the church follows what we believe to be the clearest pattern given in the New Testament for church governance. We have a senior leadership team consisting of Pastors and elders whose primary responsibility is the spiritual oversight of the fellowship. Serving alongside this team we have deacons whose primary responsibility is the practical and administrative needs of the fellowship (Acts 6:1-7).
In matters pertaining to church life, partners are expected to honour the biblical principles of submitting to the leadership and to diligently strive for peace and unity within the church (Ephesians 4:1-3, Hebrews 13:17, 1 Peter 5:5). Likewise, leaders of the church will covenant to serve in a manner befitting of Christ Himself; with integrity, gentleness, love, respect, diligence and willingness (Acts 20:28, Romans 12:8, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4, 1 Timothy 3:1-13)
As a local church we believe we exist for three main purposes (this is covered in more depth in our ‘Partnering in Vision’ class) –
1. Love Jesus – Honour him with all that we are, all that we have and all that we do. (Matt 22:37)
2. Love Church – Be committed to our brothers and sisters in Christ inside and outside of Sunnyhill Church. (Matt 22:39)
3. Love Poole – Reach those who are unbelievers outside of our four church walls near and far. (Matt 28:19)
We believe that these areas are the generic call to the church but we desire to build everything on these three values in the life of church.
